HOME PAGE OF THE KANSAS POND SOCIETY
Saturday, May 5 6:00 PM - ? At Kansas Natural Stone 1550 S. Seville (Behind TSC on West Kellogg) Plant Exchange Well, now’s your chance to get rid of those plant divisions and pick up a few new plants in return. You can even bring fish, too. Please bring all plants in a bucket, box, sack or tub and attach some kind of label to the bucket to identify the plant. Also, bring containers to bring home your goodies. If you don’t have any plants to bring, that’s okay. You are still welcome to take home some starts, anyway. We do ask that you not start claiming plants until after our meal, so that everyone has an opportunity. This meeting marks the beginning of our backyard meetings. We’ll have our normally fantastic potluck buffet. Please bring a main dish and a side or dessert and lawn chairs. Paper plates and plastic forks are provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own plates and service. Drinks will be provided .
LILY DIVIDE! (see below) April Meeting Saturday, 6:00 PM - ? at College Hill United Methodist Church (2930 E First St. N.)
Al Volkmann Will speak on Frogs at the Pond Al is a retired teacher and an avid buff on reptiles and amphibians. His expertise on frogs is amazing and I’m sure will give you a new appreciation for these creatures that inhabit our ponds and waterways. Also bring an entrée and a side dish or dessert. Drinks, paper plates, and plastic forks are provided, but you are also welcome to bring your own plates and service. Water Lily Divide Saturday, March 31 9:00 AM - ? (1:00 PM? ) at Botanica (701 N. Amidon St.)
As a public service project, we will divide the water lilies at Botanica. We will also clean out the Children’s Garden Pond. Many of you have divided lilies before and know the drill. Those who haven’t should come prepared. Dividing water lilies is a dirty job any way you do it. We will need a couple of people in the pond to pull the pots, some to transport them to the work area, another crew to wash the tubers, a group to divide, and another to repot. Bring gloves and clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy. You will learn how to perform this necessary pond-keeping task and help out Botanica. It’s also a lot of fun, and you get to take home a lily or two. Coffee and donuts will be provided, but no pot-luck dinner this time. We will need two or three people to clean the children’s garden pond. This will involve draining the pond, washing the sides and gravel bottom and refilling. Hopefully, people can rotate and share the fun. See you there.
